McGee, an Irish immigrant, was one of the Fathers of the Canadian Federation in 1867. He was assassinated in Ottawa less than a year later. You will also learn a more recent story related to the burial of Patrick J. Whelan, a Fenian sympathizer, who was convicted and hanged for the assassination of McGee.
