The Global Irish Famine Way extends from the National Famine Way in Ireland to follow the journeys of all the Irish Famine emigrants around the world, including the UK, Canada, the United States, South Africa, and Australia. These evocative and iconic Bronze Shoes and accompanying information that mark the National Famine Way – the Mother Trail, will also now signify each key location on the Global Irish Famine Way.

Starting at the National Famine Museum, which is cared for by the Irish Heritage Trust, the National Famine Way is a 165km trail in Ireland that traces the footsteps of 1,490 tenants from Strokestown, Roscommon, to Dublin in 1847 during the Great Irish Famine. It was to be their last journey on Irish soil and for the two thirds who survived the Coffin Ships – the first on their way to new lives in North America as part of the Irish diaspora.

La Voie mondiale de la Famine irlandaise débute sur la Voie nationale de la Famine irlandaise, en Irlande, et retrace le chemin parcouru par tous les émigrant·e·s de la Grande Famine irlandaise à travers le monde. Elle s’étend notamment jusqu’au Royaume-Uni, au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Afrique du Sud et en Australie. Ces chaussures de bronze évocatrices et emblématiques, ainsi que les informations qui les accompagnent le long de la Voie nationale, marqueront désormais chaque endroit clé de la Voie mondiale de la Famine irlandaise.

La Voie de la Famine a pour point de départ le National Famine Museum, administré par l’Irish Heritage Trust, et s’étend sur 165 km à travers l’Irlande, jusqu’à Dublin, retraçant le chemin parcouru à pied par 1 490 locataires de Strokestown, dans le Roscommon, pendant la Grande Famine irlandaise de 1847. Ce périple s’avèrerait être leur dernier en sol irlandais et, pour les deux tiers d’entre eux qui ont survécu aux « bateaux-cercueils », le premier pas vers une nouvelle vie en Amérique du Nord, au sein de la diaspora irlandaise.
